The combined incoming figures for June and July:
| item | $ |
| rolled over from May | 61 |
| getting out of bed ($1 per day) | 61 |
| packages mailed ($2 per each) | 6 |
| pounds kept off, $1 per pound per month |
14 |
| total yarn budget | 142 |
And on the outgoing side of the ledger:
| yarn purchased in June | $ |
| Kureyon (Mind's Eye, June sale) | 34 |
| Solo (Mind's Eye, June sale) | 22 |
| Mountain Colors (Newbury Yarns) | 6 |
| Sport Weight MM (Mostly Merino) | 45 |
| Kureyon (A Good Yarn) | 17 |
| total spent | 124 |
| total remaining | 18 |
Folks, this tally is for June only. All I had to do in July was to not let my charge card see the light of day. But you see, there was a sale. Not just any sale, mind you, but a moving sale at Circles.
For a variety of reasons, Circles just moved to a new location in a residential part of Roslindale. To facilitate the move, the store held a progressive sale in the last half of July, ending with a 40% reduction on everything. Circles has lovely stuff, much of it from artisan producers. Allison, the owner, intends to place even greater emphasis on these beautiful and unusual yarns as the business continues in its new location.
At any rate, during every trip to Circles, there were some yarns that I would always visit, but not feel compelled to break my stashing rules and take them home. But when faced with such a deep discount, and combined with a desire to help Allison, I flinched big time.
| yarn purchased in July at Circles | $ |
| Farmhouse Yarns Lumpy Bumpy (Azalea) | 54 |
| Sheep Shop One (various solids) | 186 |
| total spent | 240 |
| total remaining | - 222 |
This is quite the rabbit hole. There are a number of ways out, but certainly the path should include zero yarn purchases until Wool Day at Canterbury Shaker Village.

I LOVE your system! Do you realize the potential it has? You can just keep adding things that you want to reinforce yourself for and then just buy more more yarn. You might think of it like the government thinks of it's budget -- in a more "theoretical" sense...

Oops. I was weak in the face of the sale, too. The tour you linked to looks like fun!

That's why I stayed away from the Circles yarn sale. Took a look at my credit card statement...ouch! Hope you found good deals, though.

It's that Sheep Shop that does it. It's beautiful yarn, but darn expensive!

WOW - I love your yarn budget!

Whups. Ah well, we can't be good all the time. Everyone is entitled to fall off the wagon a time or two and it was for such a good cause. ;)

Oh no, you fell down! But considering how well you've been doing, this is still pretty damned good. And that trip sounds fabulous. Ewe'll Love It is a great store. You'll love it. [sorry, couldn't help it]

Ouch! I'm considering to get a system like this for myself as well.. Mainly to be able to reasonable explain why I'm actually allowed to buy some more yarn :) Although I still need to think about the categories and their value to keep in balance with the lousy postgrad-student salary... Do you include yarn you bought because someone ordered something from you, although they won't be assumed to pay you anything back?
